Scotland has led the way in innovation for many centuries, e.g. inventing the electric lightbulb in Dundee 40 years before Edison's patent. Further evidenced by over 10% of all Nobel Prizes being won by Scots either by birth or descent. This is impressive given that all Scots by birth or descent make up only 0.5% of the worlds population. Our talent for innovation continues to this day with many of Scotland's designers and innovators having had massive national and international success.

In recent years the trend has been a move away from national identity branding with much more emphasis on branding being targeted towards specific market sectors. This has led to a huge increase in the number of designers importing their products once they have been manufactured in China etc. Whilst this is a valid business strategy we feel that it is also important to highlight those designers still manufacturing in Scotland.

Many retailers have also expressed concern at being able to distinguish between products made in Scotland or imported, as it is no longer a requirement to have imported jewellery stamped as such. The marketplace for, many designers, is now very much a global affair which offers many advantages, however, we would also like to focus peoples attention on the great work still being made solely in Scotland.
